Environmental - Solid and Hazardous Waste Regulations
The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA, 1976) stated the following as national goals for waste management:
- Protecting human health and the environment from the potential hazards of waste disposal
- Conserving energy and natural resources
- Reducing the amount of waste generated
- Ensuring that wastes are managed in an environmentally-sound manner
Meeting these objectives subject manufacturing and industrial facilities to the following programs:
- Hazardous Waste Program (RCRA Subtitle C),
- Solid Waste Program (RCRA Subtitle D), and
- The Underground Storage Tank (UST) program (RCRA Subtitle I).
