Environmental - Clean Water Act

Federal, state and local water quality regulations are developed to protect surface and groundwater from pollution, and to maintain drinking water quality. Current regulations and preservation activities are taking a watershed management approach to protect and preserve existing waters and improve the quality of impaired waters for specific functional uses.

Under the Clean Water Act and related state and local programs, manufacturers and industry are subject to water pollution control programs, including wastewater standards, stormwater management, and spill prevention (see Emergency Planning and Emergency Response).
